I am amazed at how bad the air gets here in Michigan! Climb up to 6000' or so and you can see the crud everywhere. Amazing that smog controls are not enforced all over the country... In case you have been in a cave the last 30 or so years pollution regulations are in place all across the country. That's nice...When was the last time you had _your_ car smog checked? Ours go through the process every couple of years but I don't know why you ask.
