Actually the merchant only has to collect the sales tax if they have a presence in the state of the buyer. That doesn't mean it isn't owed. Many states are getting tired of their income flow being cut by all the mail order services out there and have started charging use tax on mail ordered items that they identify. To this point they are having a hard time making that identification. |
