If it has 2750 total time, why was it overhauled early the first time?
If it is now past TBO that means it was overhaouled early the first time. The O-320-E2D should run to TBO with no problem which is 2000 hours. Still sounds like a good price for this engine Jerry Ebby wrote: Here is a follow-up to my original post. I went back to visit the engine and pour over the log books. The engine is an O-320-E2D. It has 2750 hours total time. It has had one major overhaul. All AD's have been complied with and the crankshaft has been machined .003" with no pitting found inside. The records were meticulous as the engine came out of a Part 141 flight school. The engine was never stored. In fact the owner swapped a fresh rebuild right after flying the plane from Florida. In 9.5 hours oil consumption was 1 qt and the gauges were in the green all the way up from Fla. The starter is less than a year old and the carb is less than 1000 hours old. Compressions at the last 100 hour were mid 70's. Never had any oil contamination. The only thing bad I can find about the engine is it is past TBO. Anything else I should consider before plunking down the cash? Ebby Hatz s/n 598 |
