![]() I had my closest simulation of flight in a quickie q1 yesterday. out doing a bienniel flight review in what I thought was a schmick cessna 150 aerobat. at 3,000ft we were climbing for altitude for a practise spin and we sat there cruising along with full rpm at best climb speed and attitude for 20 minutes without the altimeter moving a gnats whisker. the mind strays in such situations and I couldnt help thinking that I was at a safe altitude experiencing the same sort of agony that some Q1 builders have related to me about takeoffs with the smaller onan engine. talk about managing limited resources and praying for thermals! is there a better engine for the Q1 than the onans? Stealth Pilot Actually I found the Q1 to be a pretty lively performer on such limited power. A friend of mine put a Kawasaki in his, but I liked it better with the Onan. The only problem was that Onans loved to die. Ed Sullivan test pilot of hundreds of aircraft, well 4 or 5 anyway! If zoom can say it why can't I. |

I would say probably all of them. In my opinion, the best performance
enhancement for a Q-1 would be an 8 stone pilot, (read my disclaimer). I'm closer to 16 stone myself. I have all five issues of the "Flying and Glider Manual" from the EAA. They are extremely interesting reading, and they really drive home the fact that minimalist, high performance airplanes with dodgy engines like the Q-1 have been around a long time. Stealth Pilot -- John Kimmel Naturally, these humorous remarks are all entirely my own opinion, based solely on rumor, supposition, innuendo and damned lies, and should be interpreted in a spirit of fun. My memory is faulty, also. |

In NJ, there was a business named Onan Plumbing... didn't seem like great marketing to any Old Testament scholars. Mark "maybe they specialized in cleaning pipes?" Hickey |
