New software program for glider pilots by
Matt Herron Jr.
Please excuse the shameless plug, but I want folks to be aware that I
have released a new software utility for glider pilots today called
"SeeG". Made for Mac and PC, and created by the makers of GlidePlan,
SeeG allows you to explore your glider’s center of gravity in a whole
new way. For more...

Scholarship/Work-Study Type Opportunity by
John[_27_]
We are exploring the notion of exchanging "work-time" for instruction/
flying time at our club. The idea is to offer this to younger folks
who show an interest in soaring/aviation, and would be a good worker.
Part of the goal is to assist with coverage on the field - especially
the wing-running...

Blanik L-13 elevator cable replacement by
Brad[_5_]
Greetings, group!
Our local club has a pair of L-13s. In one of them, we recently
discovered a badly-corroded elevator cable. The corrosion area was
located was approx. 15" aft of the bellcrank attachment, under the
port-side, aft cockpit flooring -- *very* difficult to get to. It
would appear...

How long for thermals to start working after rain? by
Bruno[_2_]
I am looking out the window of my office in Salt Lake City, Utah right
now to rain falling. Tomorrow is expected to be in the mid to upper
60's and sunny with fairly low humidity. Might be a decent soaring
day. How long does it take the ground to dry up enough after rain for
thermal soaring...

Region 5 North Perry, SC on NBC news by
Scott Alexander[_2_]
Here's the link:

Here's the funny story:
When I landed, amidst 65 gliders in this competition, as I was rolling
off the runway I noticed a massive news camera on a tripod. I slowed

Suggestion: wind energy will make gliders cheaper by
RichardFreytag
Sailplane designers,
Modern wind turbine blades are strikingly similar to glider wings.
They are now now coming out in sizes approaching 50 meters. The market
expansion for wind energy is expected to grow rapidly. The ensuing
economies of scale from mass produced wind turbine blades just...

I appreciate the responses. But just to keep these posts from
wandering off into "buying your first glider" territory:
1) I've already owned 2 gliders.
2) The DG has a mid-80's metal-top Cobra trailer. The LS has a
late-80's/early-90's fiberglass Komet trailer. Slight nod goes to the
Komet,...

General Flight Experience - Just Wondering by
Bob Whelan[_3_]
A recent conversation with an experienced glider pilot/flight instructor
got me to wondering...
I know of one CFIG/FBO who - when he got into the CFIG activity years
ago - admitted to several years of 800 hours/year in rides and
instruction...in Ohio!
I know roughly how many annual hours...

Bmapper Map Capture by
Dave White
I've tried several times to capture a map of north Texas from SeeYou
by carefully following the directions contained in Bmapper. However,
all I get is a blank screen in Bmapper when I select what appears to
be a successfully selected area map. I think the instructions in
Bmapper may be...

Since most of us that fly cross country (or locally as weel), and are
restrained by the FAR's to be on the ground before sunset assuming
that we don't have position lights. Since most of us use some kind of
navigational devise (SeeYou, Glide Navigator, WinPilot etc.), I am

(USA) SATR additions to airspace files by

It seems NACO only puts SATRs in the National Flight Database "on

York City and Washington DC.
If you fly near a Part 93 Special Air Traffic Rules area that is on
your sectional but not in your digital airspace file(s), please let...

Anyone flying with the new Spot 2?
There are 2 color options, the traditional orange/black and a new

either of these been an issue and is one preferable to the other?
Thanks!

Heads Up Display on iPhone? by

This looks like a cool HUD iPhone app for driving:

in a gaggle? Alert when too high, low, fast or slow on final? I know,
it would probably require 3 iphones and with better cameras,...
