Known Icing requirements by
Jeffrey Ross
I'm a little confused as to the requirements that an aircraft must meet
to launch into known icing conditions. To further add to my confusion,
the regulatory requirements (may be just the interpretation of?) has
changed over the years.
My personal situation, I own a '69 Aztec (D model) and 1974...

Airplane in Baja??? by
Paul Anton
I am considering a move to Baja. Probably Ensenada. Has anyone lived in Baja
& brought their airplane? If so are there any problems? I had a US
registered plane in Spain many years ago and had no problems there since
there was a reciprocal agreement in force.
Any comments would be appreciated. I...

King KMA 20 TSO Audio Input by
tony roberts
Continuing the ongoing saga of my avionics repairs, I took my plane away
from the shop - they broke my ADF and I have now bought a King KR 86 ADF
which someone else is installing. Right now we are stalled though as he
doesn't have a schematic for my King KMA 20 TSO audio panel and we need
either a...

I can teach anyone how to get what they want out of life. by

"I can teach anyone how to get what they want out of life. The problem is I can't find anybody who can tell me what they want." -- Mark Twain "Today people in America can become whatever they want. CO mystery - any ideas? by
Andrew Gideon
Our Cessna R182 is getting CO in the cockpit. We've now had three different
shops look at it multiple times, all to no (complete) effect. They've done
things like resealing the firewall, the gear-wells, the exhaust, and the
like. But still we get CO.
We've swapped CO detectors around between...

KT76C Mode C transponder - what is it worth? by
G.R. Patterson III
Peter wrote:
1. What sort of price could one get for it? It is covered by a 2 year
Honeywell extended warranty, starting Oct 2004, which I believe is
transferable.
New ones are going for a bit over $1,700. I would auction it on Ebay with a
minimum bid of $850.
2. What documents, if any,...

172 owners - End the Draft by
Roger Long
Every 172 I've ever flown has had so much air pouring in around the left
doorpost that the pilot's air vent was superfluous. I've thought about
wearing a ski mask for winter flying. I, and many others, have always
thought it was coming in through the stall horn and just something you had
to put up...

Oil Change Regularity by
zatatime
I fly my bird about 50 hours per year. I was taught by an old-timer
that 50 hours was fine for oil changes and that a year was an
acceptable calendar period.
In the other threads it seems many have a higher frequency than this.
Would people chime in with how often calendar and flight time...

some cost info by
Rosspilot
This is just one man's numbers, but they are real world and may be of interest.
I am particularly anal about my aircraft expenses . . . every nickel spent on
flying (including buying toys and gadgetry, charts,, landing fees, fuel,
WHATEVER) is kept in an Access database. There are the following...

Aircraft certification questions. by
psyshrike
Howdy,
How does FAA type certification relate to intellectual property
rights? For example: everything in an O-235 has been out of patent for
years now. Same with old aircraft designs. Is there any reason why
somebody couldn't tool up and start ripping out O-235s, and selling
them new?
I ask...

Owning Update by

In addition to my owning update, my ISP also changed news servers, and I
took the opportunity to change my handle.
So... this is the poster formerly known as "The Weiss Family".
Well in about six weeks of ownership, I've put about 35 hours on my Beech

clearview inline air filter by

I want to protect my vacuum instruments with a filter between the vacuum
regluator and the (dry) vacuum pump on my 74 Archer. Spruce sells the
Clearview for about 50 bucks, and sells the filter plus mounting hardware
and STC for about 85 bucks. Does anyone have any experience with this or
other...

Sources for retread tires?? by
Jim Burns
We're looking for sources to buy a set of retread 700 x 6 8 ply tires from.
The guy we bought our Aztec from only had 6 ply tires on the main gear. 6
plys aren't rated high enough for our gross weight and the POH clearly calls
for 8 plys.
There seems to be a shortage of 8 ply cases in this...

What is a "short field" for a PA28-181 by
Roy Page
I have been trying to determine the length of a runway that would be
considered a "short field" for my Archer II.
The two instructors that I work with on occasions disagree on the amount of
flaps to use for takeoff at gross weight.
One guy says my airfield with a 2,800ft runway is a "short field"...
