Gauteng Regionals 2007 - Results by

It was not as good as it looked from the practice day. So much so that
the Club Class were unable to achieve the required 4 days for a
Championship. Finals results are posted in the GTR2007 Forum on

SSA scholarship news (USA) by
[email protected]
"Cadet" pre-solo scholarship grants were awarded to Karl Parsons (Mile
High Gliding, CO) and Conor MacJarrett (Adirondack SC, NY). We wish we
had had more applications, as the Cadet fund has capacity for more
learn-to-fly grants. Ian Cangero of Adirondack SC was our Bultman
award exemplary...

Tost brake bolt shears off - the answer by
Jack Glendening
Nearly a month ago I reported on my Tost brake failure on landing. I
finally was able to get the plane to someone knowledgeable (Tom
Stowers) to look at it and the answer is that the brake was
incorrectly installed.
The axle spacer was placed on the wrong side of the hub, making the
hub...

PZL vario zero adjustment. by
[email protected]
Hello.
I have a mechanical PZL vario that indicates -0.5 kts while sitting
still and I would like to zero it. Does anyone know the proper
adjustment procedure?
When I take the glass off I cannot see a place where I could put a
small drop of paint or wax to act as counterweight. Is there a...

Airworthiness Directives by email by
Roger Worden
I think this is new - maybe not many people are aware of this. You can
subscribe to an FAA service to send you AD's and Special Airworthiness
Information Bulletins via email. Go to http://rgl.faa.gov and enter your
email address. They have an extensive list of aircraft makes and models to...

Panel Materials by
Tim Taylor
I am getting ready to replace the panel in my Ventus B. Are there any
standard materials (especially the core) and recommended glass and
core thickness used to layup a new one?
This is a fixed panel, does not pop up when the canopy is opened.
I was thinking of using a 1/16" to 1/8" core of...

Non-polarized blue-blocker (orange) clip-ons/flip-ups? by
Frank[_1_]
Hi,
I use tri-focal 'blended focus' prescription glasses, and I use either
clip-on or flip-up non-polarized orange sunglasses for soaring.
Unfortunately, my last pair died at the New Castle contest, and I
can't seem to find the source anymore on the net.
Anyone have a good source for cheap,...

WinPilot by
AK
I would like to know what for does WinPilot use pressure altitude?
From what I read GPS altitude is much more accurate for final glides
so what else is there that pressure altitude is good for? I browsed
through the manual but I could not see any references.

Self launch ultra-light sailplane by
[email protected]
Ok, I said I'd do this for a friend who is building his own
ultralight. He wants to design and build( me helping) a sailpalne that
fits the ultralight rules and is able to launch/sustain with a power
unit, he'd prefer electric. Any ideas or comments? Is ther anything
already out there being tried?...

Hangars - Horton Stack Doors? by
V1
I'm considering Horton Stack doors (the type that fan-fold to the
side) for a hangar. One question is the expected lifespan of the
fiberglass panels.
If anyone has direct knowledge of this brand in actual use over an
extended time, I'd appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

PIK 20 D Annual Inspection by
[email protected]
PIK 20 D owners, can you give me some advice regarding how to
lubricate all controls? My rudder pedals are pretty stiff- I have to
press pretty hard to move the rudder. Is there any way to lubricate
it, or is that normal? Also, I have a problem with the horizontal
stabilizer, it doesn't want to go...

Sunglasses for soaring by
[email protected]
I have heard from time-to-time that Sun Tiger sunglasses work well for
soaring. Since I fly within 30 miles of the 1/10th busiest airport in
the world, anything that will increase my chances of seeing another
aircraft is something I want to take advantage of. It also turns out
that Sun Tigers are...
