Still have a compass? by
[email protected]
So your owner's manual states a mechanical compass is required as minimum equipment. Fact is the sailplane has three GPS sources all with separate batteries. Has anyone been extended a "pass" by a FAA inspector on this?
If you license your sailplane experimental...would the FAA still insist the...

Need Help Configuring Power FLARM Portable by
Dan Marotta
You've read on another thread that, since updating the firmware in my PF
Portable and updating the FlarmNet data file in my ClearNav II, I've not
been receiving Flarm targets on the ClearNav or on my wife's Streak.
Yesterday, full of hope, I downloaded and installed the just released
FlarmNet...

New Zealand soaring movie by
[email protected]
Long time ago I saw a neat movie about a father and daughter(?) learning to soar in New Zealand. Great scenery. Remind me the name of the movie?
Also, if my 14 YO son gets instruction and solos in New Zealand does the flight time and solo endorsement from a Kiwi certified flight instructor count...

Kobo Aura refresh rate? by
Martin Gregorie[_5_]
Does anybody who is using a Kobo eBook reader to run XCSoar measured its
screen refresh rate? If so, I'm curious to know whether it can match the
usual XCSoar full screen refresh rate of 1 per sec on a WM/WinCE-based
PNA?

Hi... and some questions from a beginner by
Johnny T
I have been saving up for a soaring vacation for over 5 years now, and it has finally materialized and is coming up in a couple of weeks.
I am going to be spending 6 straight days in Minden - no work - maybe just a little bit of internet - and a little bit of hiking and a little bit of photography...

Flight Computer Input Devices by
Mike the Strike
I'm about to upgrade my Discus 2 panel with a more modern flight computer (5.6" class 640x480 display) and in reviewing the various options I am interested in user opinions about input devices.
My panel is just out of easy reach, so I'll need some input device - either stick-mount or cord-mount....

one more for low tow by
John Firth[_4_]
On aerotow in Oz in a Libelle std ( with ballast) behind
a Pawnee, the airspeed decayed to a value uncomfortably
close to stall; full back stick failed to hold the
the low tow position and I sank low enough ( with my hand on the (release)

New Parowan Entry List? by
JJ Sinclair
Just checked it at http://parowan.soaringweb.net/Entry.html and I have
made a BIG move, all the way from 50th to 27th ? What happened? It looks as
though Karl has redesignated it as Region 2 West and let in himself and a whole
lot of easterners in. Right on Karl, I like a man who isn't afraid...

Ventus bT/cT comparison by
Jim Pengelly
Hi everyone,
I fly a Discus bT at the moment and absolutely love it. However, I
am thinking of upgrading to a flapped turbo in the next one or two
seasons and the Ventus bT/cT would seem to be the natural
choice.
I have heard conflicting opinions about the various models:
i) The bT has...

wrote:
Rick asked about the insane (my opinion) 13.5 meter class, including
the momentous issue of water ballast.

Gliding Experience Helps by
Karl Striedieck
To all of my flying friends,
Glider Training is what seamlessly enabled me to switch gears and take this
event in stride on this one. A guardian angel might have helped as well.

Cambridge Model 20 Issues by
B. Iten
I am (I think) a proud owner of a model 20 which is driving me up the
wall. Yesterday, I was flying our clubs Discus B with my logger
attached under the glare shield. On my flight, after I was off of tow,
the recorder recorded what looked and was shown as engine noise. The
engine noise also showed...
