Ground tests & pilot logbook. by Paul Lee
Just a curious question here. Normally when I fly, my pilot logbook time starts when the hobbs meter starts ticking. That includes probably 10 minutes of taxing, runnup, etc. What about taxing tests on a experimental? Does that count?

Another first flight. by Paul Lee
Happened today. Winds were kind and I took the chance. The 25 min flight went fine, took off smoothly and touched down nicely without a bounce inspite of 7kts cross wind. There is some tweaking to be done; radio worked intermittently - lost communications with traffic, but the standby airport...

Radio Shack SWR meter by Paul Lee
I just posted a question on the RS SWR meter and the thread dissapeared. Here is my question again. Is there some way of modifying the Radio Shack SWR meter (27MHZ) to make it work in the aircraft radio range (120MHZ)? I am not asking if I should use it or not but what circuit modification can be...

SWR meter by Paul Lee
Is there a simple way to convert a Radio Shack SWR meter (27MHZ) to aircraft radio range (120MHZ)? Anybody done that? -------------------------------------------- Paul Lee, SQ2000 canard: www.abri.com/sq2000

Stuck starter solenoid? by Paul Lee
I have both a contactor and a starter solenoid in my kit built. The contactor is mainly to protect from possibility of starter solenoid getting stuck. Its not used for otherwise. My question is how frequently do starter solenoids get stuck on? Anybody have that happen to them? If it's really a...

3 blade prop position on 6cyl engine. by Paul Lee
Whats the best 3 blade prop position on a 6 Cyl Franklin? The Ivo prop instructions only give an example for a 4 cyl IO-360 to place one blade on TDC position. That's where I placed it for the 6 cyl Franklin for now. ---------------------------------------------------- Paul Lee, SQ2000 canard...

Non TSO'd IFR indicator by Paul Lee
The Garmin 430 GPS/COM/GS/VOR/LOC requires an external CDI for the non GPS NAV. The Michel MC-60 digital CDI http://www.avionix.com/indicator.html fits the Garmin 430 but is not TSO'd. Does the CDI have to be certified for IFR use in experimentals?

FAA form 337? by Paul Lee
Some equipment I installed mentions form 337 - for example VOR/LOC/GS receiver, IFR GPS, etc., Is 337 required in a new kit project? It is for "Major repairs and alterations". Or does the DAR approve the whole package together? Please advise any required...

Seat belts. by Paul Lee
Got a set of JCWhitney seat belts w/shoulder strap. But will not work since the upper adjustment works with lower part to create an open Y on bottom. Need something like old Cesnna 150 type where the single upper shoulder simply attaches to the buckle without pulling it up. Any body know of a good...

Canard planes swept wing outer VG's? by Paul Lee
I have the copy of the CAFE test of Cozy Mk IV canard where it states that swept wings tend to start stalling at the tip rather than the root. This moves the center of lift forward and is a bigger problem for aft CG. While canard planes swept wings typically already have those "vortilon" tabs, has...

Tire inflation pressure by Paul Lee
What is the proper pressure to use with 5.00-5 mains and 10x3.50-4 nose for a 2250 gross canard plane? Another related question: both mains tend to loose air slowly - would be flat after about 3 months sitting. Is this typical or should I get new...

Hi, I have the opportunity to purchase an Avid Flyer Mark IV (STOL wings, taildragger) at a very attractive price. It's been worked on over the years by 2 different builders. Wings aren't attached, tanks aren't yet in the wings. Can anyone offer advice on what to look for to assess its...
