Jepp vs NOS at PRB by
Doug Campbell
I was training with Jepp charts, and my partner (safety pilot) had NOS, and
we
were attempting the VOR DME (GPS) B approach into Paso Robles. The Jepp
chart shows the procedure turn (when starting at the VOR, not the arc)
starting
at 6 DME from the VOR, while the NOS chart shows it starting...

Finding IAPs by TYPE? by
[email protected]
Hello all... I was looking through the online instrument procedures, trying to
find a VOR/DME RNAV approach to do the flight test portion of my KNS-80 IFR
certification. They aren't that prevalent, and I'm in Virginia, but basically equally
close to WV, KY, TN, and NC, which spans a number of sets...

Approach Question- Published Missed Can't be flown? by
Brad Z
Question for the gallery-
Refer to the FCI ILS 33 Approach
http://www.naco.faa.gov/d-tpp/0405/06066I33.PDF
The published missed approach requires tracking to the flatrock VOR (FAK).
For the past few months, the following notam has been published: FAK VOR
067-230 UNUSBL. So basically, you'd need...

What caused the VSI and ALT bouce in the IMC? by
cpu
Yesterday I flew a cessna 172 in the hard IFR. When I penetrated
apparently a heavy cumulonimbus rain cloud area, the VSI and altimeter
started to oscillate and bounce +/- 250 FPM (ALT oscilated 200~300 ft
up and back). The rate of bounces was about 3 to 4 Hz (3 to 4 times
per second). It lasted...

transitioning from instruments to visual landing on final by
Gerald Sylvester
I'm about 14 hours into my IFR training with 11 of those on the sim.
I had to go to LAS for work (non-aviation) for 3 weeks. I came back
and was dying to go flying. Well I expected the worst. I hadn't
flown a plane in nearly 2 months since I was working on the IFR stuff.
First time flying...

Busted IFR Checkride by
Jon Kraus
Took my IFR checkride today and busted... I screwed up the holding
pattern big time and that was that... At first I was so damn fustrated
that I told the DE that I just want to head back to the airport... Then
I thought to myself "what are you going to do there pout?" :-) I then
decided to go...

Strange lost-comm situation by
Roy Smith
I had an interesting little experience last night.
We were inbound to MMK (Meriden CT) for a practice GPS-36, talking to
Bradley Approach. MMK is right on the edge between Bradley and NY
Approach's airspace, and radio coverage tends to be spotty there.
Conditions were night, IFR, but VMC with...

IFR Flight Plans on the web by
Jeff Saylor

OK, I give..........is there a place to file an IFR flight plan on the web?
Thx,
VL
For Web use, Duat.com (Data Tranformation Duats) has a nicer interface (IMHO)
than duats.com. You can even save favorite routes and other information
Duats.com (CSC Duats) does however have...

Training for my CFII - Got a couple questions by
BoDEAN
What is the best course of action I should take to get my CFII?
I am currently a CFI at a 141 school. My instrument skills are weak
(I only have 10 hours actual, 60 simulated) and rarely fly instruments
because all my students are primary.
I need to get my knowledge test done, and I want to get...

Airport Radial/Distance/Fix on Jepp Airport Chart by
Dave Johnson
I "discovered" Jepp has decided to remove the radial/distance/from fix info
on the airport plan view that defined the ARP.
Am I the only one that uses the info .. loaded into the RNAV .. so, for
example, when ATC says 'radar contact 6 NE of the xyz airport' I can look at
the RNAV and verify that I...

Aerospace Engineering Schools by
Fallon47
My son would like to major in aeronautical or aerospace engineering in
college. He wants to be an aerodynamicist. He is mainly interested
in aerodynamics of fixed-wing aircraft. Many schools have an
aerospace major, but seem to be focused more on the "space" side. He
has very little interest...

Embry Riddle by
Aviatore
You might try Embry Riddle Uni at West Palm Beach, FL or Prescot, AZ. They
are an excelent school for studing aeronautics. I personally got an
aeronautical, mechanical engineering degree from the Uni of Pittsburgh, PA.

ATC says wrong position by
Greg Esres
When being vectored, and ATC says your 4 miles from X, I noticed
occasionally that they state the wrong X. They confuse the FAF with
the IF. For this reason, I tell students to never rely on ATC's
distance statements to make a descent.
How often do others see this?

Parallel Track function in GPS? by
Roy Smith
Yesterday I played with the parallel track function in the CNX-80 for
the first time. I was introducing the CNX-80 to a student and I had
planned a VFR flight via airways. My student (rightfully) questioned
the wisdom of an over-water segment, so we decided to fly that segment
on a 5-mile offset...

Logging Simulator Time by
Bartscher
I just had my first opportunity to log some approaches in a simulator and that
brought up questions about how to log the time. The Frasca 141 was set up to
mimic a Cessna 172. My questions a
1) Does this time get logged as Airplane SEL along with also being logged as a
Synthetic Trainer?
2) Do...
