ELT in LS-8b by
Paul
The LS8b has a carbon fuse to allow the extra weight of the turbo engine.
Also made as a pure glider with the turbo as a later option. The LS8a has
the glass fuse.

SSA Debate Club tryouts by
Stewart Kissel
No more worrying about gelcoat refinish costs, or the
newest flight computer. Just get rid of the flying
aspect of the sport and stick to fighting over the
rules!! Think of all the graduating speech majors
we could recruit as new members :)
All kidding aside, over the history of sailplane...

I wish I'd never got into this... by
Kevin Neave
The original question stated a glider doing 100kts
with/without 100kgs of ballast.
Ignoring the stalling speed for the moment, Does anyone
out there think the pull-up takes more than 4 or 5
seconds?
Does anyone out there think that the sink rate of the
unballasted glider at 100kts is more than...

ideal training glider by
M B
* Good visibility : No * light, good handling : No
* Spacious cockpit : No Hmmm...I think the 2-33 has
good visibility and a spacious cockpit. It is not
'light handling' and I think pitch sensitivity is a
disadvantage in primary training, so I LIKE the heavy
controls of the 2-33 and...

SRA poll open (USA) by
Mark Navarre
Where is the announcement? Where is the link to the survey? I managed to find
a link on www.glider.com by accident but it says "election". Nothing on the
SSA website. This is only the latest of many tiny seeds of disillusionment
that have been planted in me regarding sailplane racing in the USA....

S-H Spars: Anyone check for voids laterally? by
Mark Grubb
Has anyone probed spanwise, along the spar cap adjacent to the visible
glue-starved areas for voids that are not visible on the exterior of
the spar? A flexible, thin rod should work. If so, what did you
find?

Discus CS grounded in France by

French aviation authorities (DGAC) have just grounded the Discus CS,
because of an in-flight wing failure :

Apparently, it is not the case in Germany (nothing on the Schempp-Hirth
or LBA websites)
Has anyone got more news ?

Safety Rules by
Pat Russell
This post is about rules intended to enhance safety. It is not
about tasking or scoring or the philosophy of selecting a
winner.
"Safety rules" can be divided into two categories:
1. Rules that enhance the safety of everyone (e.g. the
left-hand circling rule)
2. Rules that are targeted...

My compass fluid level is low and needs refilling,is there a substitute
fluid I can use rather than buying an overhaul kit. I had heard that
using mineral spirits would suffice. Any suggestions?
