JFK Airport Birdstirke Dangers Being Ignored? by
Bill Mulcahy
For years I have been talking about the danger of using a JFK runway (22
right) that
has a bird nesting area (Joco Marsh) at it's end.

Rather than redirect this runway to its original location, over the middle
of Jamaica Bay,
the FAA and the Port...

SOUNDS OF seaplanes by
[email protected]
greetings
i don't know a lot about aviation but sure someone here does
so the question is
why do seaplane motors sound heavier? and more distinctive
than their land based counterparts?
live near water and i can tell by the sound if it has floats or wheels

Effect on aeroplane of sudden depressurisation by
Guy Lux
Often in films, when a plane flying at high altitude has its window
shot out, it seems to experience major turbulence and/or seem to dive
before it is stabilised.
I can't understand why a load of air rushing out of the pressurised
cabin would do this in *real* situations, does it actually...

Can anyone tell me what the limits are for flying over built up areas
in the UK (not associated with a licenced airfield)
I can't see anything obvious on the CAA site.

You should all go and check this site out. It's for an Air Race, and
lets you choose the camera angles and fly right along side the pilots!
Let me know what you think

Generator on 100LL? by
Mark Morissette
Does anyone have any experience with running 100LL in a generator?
I picked up a small and quiet (900 Watt) genny a week or so back for
Oshkosk, and am considering the fuel options for it once we get there.
The manual was of only minor help, mentioning a minimum of 87 Octane
"unleaded". Its the...

Avoid Insurance Cancellation Gouge by
Andy Shane
I got a nasty surprise from AVEMCO yesterday: a $150 surcharge for
terminating my insurance before the policy expiration date.
'Turns out, most carriers impose a 10% "Cancellation Fee," according
to my new broker, Travers & Associates.
So, not only was AVEMCO non-competitive, they gave me the...

Handheld battery question by

My brain has totally gone blank for this simple question, I know I should
have paid more attention in school !!!.
I just was given a 12volt 1200mAh battery and a 200mh 3W wall charger by a
friend who is quitting flying. It has been that long since he used the
battery he doesn't remember charging...

scan the posted Seattle Center ATC approach and departure frequencies
on any of my mobile or base scanners I can only pick up transmissions

737-700 by
louis
Hi,
Recently I was in a 737-700 during my trip. I noticed that the
landing speed was quite high. Anyone know what the normal landing
speed is for this aircraft?
Also, I noticed that there was another way to slow down the aircraft
after touching down. Was it reverse thrust of the engines? I...
