Flying Club with Experimental Aircraft by
Jeff
I know that you can not use an experimental airplane for hire or for a
rental or use it for flight training (unless you own the airplane and have
an instructor that will fly with you or you use the exemption for transition
training), but what would keep you from forming a flying club...

What is the ideal ILS antenna? by
billkennedy3
Questions for Jim Weir, or other knowledgeable folks:
I've got a couple of questions about an ideal antenna for ILS use.
My Comm/Nav radio uses one antenna for both ILS and VOR. I rarely use
VOR so I'd like to optimize an antenna for ILS use (a side note -- my
current antenna sucks for both VOR...

SMOH=487, STOH=77??? by
Michael Horowitz
Subject is part of a description of an A-65 engine.
Am I reading this correctly: the engine had a major, then about 400
hours later required a top half overhaul?? Isn't a top included in a
major?
What likely happened? - MIke

"hinge stock"? by
Michael Horowitz
reading thru EAA's "Aircraft Welding" I see mention of 'hinge stock',
a tube which probably takes a bushing and is part of the
elevator/stab. assy.
I didn't see a mention in Spruce; is it just tougher steel than 4130
or is it tubing with a pre-drilled bushing? - Mike

Shotgun Starts by
Dick
Was talking with some WW2 guys who remembered the use of 10 gauge shotgun
shells to start an aircraft engine. I've seen several movies showing
something but my question is how did it work? shell in seperate cylinder
from pistons and how push crank over, etc??

Altitude ceiling engine choices by
abripl
Builders who plan to fly in mountains needing higher altitude should
consider their engine choices. Typical Lycoming low compression engines
have a limit of about 13,500 feet. You need higher compression engines
or turbocharging for higher altitudes. I tested my high compression
(10.5) Franklin...

heater control for curing oven by
[email protected]
I'm into recumbents and am exploring building a mold for a prepreg
carbon setup. This looks like an active site for composites.
Can anyone recommend a heater control to adjust the heating/cooling
ramp rate (5 degrees a minute, etc)? I'm obviously trying to keep
costs down so something surplus or...

Source of Dacron? by
Michael Horowitz
As part of my welding practice, I'm going to build a small control
surface "look-alike" ( I have access to Tcraft blueprints so what I
build will look vaguely like a real part) . I'd like to take the
opportunity to learn a bit about covering, but don't want to spend
money on Ceconite if it's REALLY...

RV-12 LSA by
Smitty Two
All this talk about pricing, and speculation about Van's -- now I open
my new issue of the RV-ator newsletter and read that they're working on
on the RV-12. OK, so it's not a production unit - you still will have to
build it yourself. But, it's going to be a genuine LSA, with 2-place
side by side...

Oshkosh price for TIG by
[email protected]
Does anybody have the Oshkosh price for both Miller and Lincoln's
entry-level TIG welders handy? I checked them both out but can't find
the literature.
Anybody had luck getting the local shop to match this price?

Close-up pictures of knobs/panels? by
GEG
I have a need to get some close-up images
of knobs and/or control panels of aircraft
to create my own rendering of a panel.
I'd like to overlay different knob types to
get a feel of how it will look.
Can anyone point me to a source or have any
help they can offer?

Why no new diesel radials? by
On-Condition
Just wondering, exactly why are radial diesels not part of the
diesel revival? You can't beat radials on airplanes for smooth
reliability. I once saw a cracked-off jug pounding through the
cowling as the engine was still running (the single Otter had
just landed).

Another on LSA pricing by
GeorgeB
Another point to consider on the "high" price of the new group of SLSA
aircraft is that those buying, examples being private pilots looking
(not) forward to the day thay can no longer maintain a medical and
FBOs using them for training and rental is ...
Many pilots will hold PPC with IA, and will...
