Should we rebuild MX 300 NavCom by
Roger Long
We have an MX300 in our 172 that has started producing squeals and static
whenever it is turned on. It was intermittent a month ago and proceeded to
being continuous. We can still transmit and receive if we can stand
listening to the noise.
I turned it on today and could clearly hear a...

DHMO for cleaning off bugs by
Jon Woellhaf
After a short 1.5 hour sightseeing flight today I tried using 100% DHMO to
clean the bugs off the leading edges. It worked surprisingly well. Despite
my precautions, I got a little in my eyes and a lot on my hands and arms,
but I haven't noticed any adverse effects yet.

Pirep: SacSkyRanch Oil Filter Can Cutter by
Jim Burns
Mine arrived today and I had 2 filters waiting for it. Short story: It
simply WORKS. No fuss, no muss, no cheap parts, no weak links, no binding,
no huge shipping or handling fees, quick delivery, no problems.
After asking the group's opinions, I crossed off several can cutters that
members...

http://www.alexisparkinn.com/rogue's_gallery_i_-_p.htm#OSHKOSH
I finally got around to adding some of the pictures that were emailed to be
by folks who attended our rec.aviation party, held in the North Forty at OSH
'03.
Scroll down past the fly-in pool party pictures to see 'em.

First the AI, then the DG, then...? by
Jay Honeck
A couple of months ago our AI, which had been "coming and going", finally
went. We replaced it with a rebuilt unit from "The Gyro House", which had
the dual effect of getting our autopilot working properly again.
Last month, our DG failed completely and suddenly, after a normal landing in
Pella,...

A Glass Panel for my old airplane? by
Brenor Brophy
Well my 1980 Skylane might not be exactly old by airplane standards, but its
panel is really showing its age. It has the original factory installed
avionics package, (Cessna ARC radios...).
I've been planning a major panel upgrade/replacement since I got the plane
two years ago. The current plan...

UPDATE #3 -- Headset Noise by
Jonathan Goodish
I put a voltmeter on the alternator output and measured between 32-35 AC
volts at moderate load and moderate RPM. Looks like some diodes have
decided to give up.
Does anyone have any info on the Plane-Power alternators? There is a
PMA'd replacement for my aircraft, and I will go that direction...

Any Maverick Leader Jet experience? by
Alex Zeng
They said they are making 5 per month, then there should be 100+ flying out
there now. Anyone has experience building and flying one of them? They
appear to be the only one in the ultra light jet category out there flying.
Does it really take 9 months to assemble them together from the kit?

carry a bicycle in a Mooney? by
Dave Butler
I have an M20J and I'd like to be able to take a bicycle sometimes. It's
OK if it doesn't fit through the baggage door, just needs to fit
inside the cabin and not block access through the (only) door. No
passengers, just me in the left seat. I'd prefer not to remove any
seats. I'm willing to...

Pitot heat by
Paul Mennen
Just saw in this month's AOPA (Fall flights):
"Most pilots slumming around the pattern on a hot summer day
will probably not flip the pitot heat on, but certainly anytime
you're flying in or near moisture - at any air temperature - It's
safest to use pitot heat." - Editor in Chief, Thomas B....

Garmin updates by
Dico
Hello...
If you have a 530 or 430, does it accept the same updates? Or are the
updates specific to each machine. Also, if you have both in your
plane (one of each), do you have to purchase 2 updates?
I notice that some 530s come with 'terrain'... is this an option from
garmin? Can it be added...

Story from an older pilot 74 by
Hankal
Took off Saturday morning at 6:30 still very dark. Got my IFR clearance in the
air and soon was in solid IMC. Some clouds were nasty black. Got course
deviation don't like to bounce my plane around. 2 hours into the flight the
clouds were not as nasty. 30 minutes later I landed at SGJ for fuel....

Taxes and Flying Clubs by
CHRISTOPHER SPIERINGS
I'm hoping folks on this newsgroup can give me some ideas to take back to my
flying club. We currently have 24 members and 3 aircraft. Through years of
less than stellar management the officers the club has found itself in the
position of facing some very expensive upgrades. As a result the...

thing required in the comment is to support the lease extension or
not. To date some radical...

Extra fees by
Paul Millner
What is a flow fee?
Typically a per gallon fee charged by an airport operator to anyone flowing
fuel on their airport. Some operators even try to charge the guy pouring
mogas from 5 gallon cans into his 172. I've seen as low as a penny, and as
much as a dime... 3 to 5 cents is typical.

Avionics Help/Recommendations Neede by
three-eight-hotel
You may have seen some of my threads over the past 6-8 months, about an
unpredictable flakey radio problem I was having. It seemed to have
been resolved by replacing a relay in the audio panel.
I have flown the plane for a few months now, with no issues, until
recently. I have encountered the...

Pa-28-151 struts by
Gus Cabre
I have a sticky main strut in my Pa-28-151. My engineer has suggested
changing the o-rings and valves of both struts. I was curious about the
whole structure and have looked everywhere in the internet with no luck Any
suggestions where I could find them?
