NG Launches See And Avoid Web Site by
Larry Dighera
Now (as a result of FSS privatization) that's so difficult to reach
FSS, and the personnel you reach haven't a clue, the time is right for
this:
GUARD LAUNCHES SEE AND AVOID WEB SITE
There is now a one-stop Web site (http://www.seeandavoid.org/) for
information on special-use...

FAA F&^*%$ Up by
BiffClinton
This debacle represents more documentary proof that Blakey
and her cronies have utterly destroyed another component of
the world’s largest, safest air traffic control system. The
promised savings will never materialize. The bill for
privatizing this thing just keeps getting bigger and bigger...

What happened to Twin Otters? by
Mxsmanic
I was reading about Twin Otters in Wikipedia, and I see that production
stopped in 1988, but the article doesn't explain why. The airplane looks like
it was (and is) pretty popular, so why did the company stop making them?

New FSS frustration by
gman
Hello All,
Sorry for ranting but:
Last Friday, I was at Burnet, TX (BMQ) in light drizzle at 6:00am and
was trying to get an IFR clearance out of there. There was a cell a
few miles West of the airport moving towards the airport with a lot of
nasty stuff behind it.
I was pre-flighted and ready...

Pretty colors! by
john smith[_2_]
Have you ever wondered what all those pretty colors on the various radar
maps you see mean and compare to the different sources?
See the link below.
http://www.davegwinn.com/Radar%20Chart.html
Dave writes a column in IFR that explains how things work.

Did I see Bob Hoover perform? by
Dallas
I went to an airshow south of Dallas during the last half of the 1970's....
I'm guessing 1978.
Rockwell International sponsored a flight display with both a P-51 and a
Commander. I remember being astounded that a business twin could perform
like that. From what I remember of the performance, it...

Sierra Nevada passes by
[email protected]
Some passes through the Sierras in California are obvious from the
roads that go through them, examples being near Lake Tahoe (Hwy 50 and
Interstate 80) and Tioga Pass Road (Hwy 120) through Yosemite.
My question is what other passes, not marked by roads, are people
using? What are their altitudes...

Bugs on the windshield by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Every time I fly one of my real airplanes, I get bugs on the windshield and
wings. I'm confused about this because MSFS doesn't have bugsplats on the
screen.
What is wrong with my real airplanes? How do I avoid getting bugs on the
windshield? There must be something wrong with reality, because...

Anyone have Tips, tricks & notes on a C-170B by
Al G[_2_]
Hi Gang,
In the next couple of weeks I'll be working with a fellow to finish his
private in a C-170B. Does anyone have any notes, tricks, or gotchas I should
know about? I have taildragger time in everything from a Quickie to a
Lodestar, but haven't flown the 170 for 28 years.

transponder not working by
buttman
A few days ago I was getting ready to do a cross country with one of
my students. This was going to be his first cross country, so the
focus was going to be on pilotage, dead reckoning, planning, cockpit
management, and stuff like that. I was going to save the flight
following, flight plan, class C...

Flat tire by
Viperdoc[_4_]
The tire on my Baron looks low. This is impossible, since in MSFS there is
no need to put air in tires. Is there a switch on the panel that inflates
the tires? If so, where is it located?
Can anyone explain this anomaly?

yet another use of the ol' 8710-1 by
Sylvain
When I went to renew my medical last week, I realized that I had
just introduced a discrepancy in the system: I always bring along
copies of the previous years 8500-8 forms to avoid introducing
inadvertently unwanted discrepancies -- administrations hate
discrepancies. This time however, ...

Novel Fly/Drive Vacation Ideas... by
Jay Honeck
When I was a kid, my dad would take 3 weeks off every summer, and we
would go on long, meandering road trips around the American West and
Southwest. These make up some of my best childhood memories.
We'd like to do that with our kids, but always run up against the
inevitable time constraints....

6 reasons why Palo Alto airport should go by
daffy
1. Small planes use leaded gasoline, which is more polluting than
autos and with over 600 landings and departures per day.... that is a
lot of lethal pollution.
2. There is always the eminent danger of a plane crash, one just
recently occurred and fortunately the plane landed in the marsh...
