Copper in oil analysis ? by

I've just had a big increase in copper; wonder where copper comes
from. The engine is an IO-540-C4D5D, 500 hrs since new in 2002.
I had the same thing happen. Copper comes from brass bushings. In my
case the wrist pin broke in the middle and the bushing was being
destroyed. I...

Piper Arrow IV fuel pressure by
MC
Does your fuel-pressure gauge fluctuate noticibly ?
Mine vibrates at about a 3Hz rate between the
middle and bottom of the green-band.
Engine runs fine...
Turning-on the electic pump reduces the amplitude of
the swing and stablizes it at around mid gauge.
Is this 'normal' ??

Palm PDA software for aviation by
H.P.
Anyone have any recommendations for aviation software for the Palm PDA. I'm
thinking of AirCalc Pro through AvShop but there's a bunch of stuff
available from Palm Gear that's also shareware.

what a trip...what a plane! (long) by
The Weiss Family
I just got back last night from picking up my first plane.
It's a Beech Super III, A23-24.
I think planes are like kids: mine is better looking, smarter, etc...
Anyone else feel that way ;-)
I flew down to Dallas from Minden, NV on Friday.
On Friday evening when I got there, the weather was nice,...

True cost of ownership by
Lou Parker
Can anyone tell me where to find a spreadsheet (fill in the blank) of
the the true cost of ownership. I'm looking at a few aircraft with a
friend and we would like to know what this is going to cost. I'm
trying to figure fuel, insurance, mait., etc..

Need help with fuel guage please! by
Dave
OK...a 1976 PA 28 151..
After a few minutes of running, the port guage will start to fall
towards E.
It is showing 3/4 now (fuel at tabs), and will sag to 1/4 within
about 15 min, while I am operating on the starboard (other) tank.
Shut down for a few hours, guage resumes normal (correct)...

Answers to questions asked in previous threads my new toy by
Jack Allison
Something strange is happening with my news server...not all
posts/replies are showing up so I can't answer folks asking questions
about N2104T. I'm able to see everything with Goggle groups though.
I'd reply from there but am wondering about being spammed as you need to
provide a valid e-mail...

Why Buy and Airplane? by

Passed on from a friend of a friend....
For those needing a reason of some kind for buying an Aircraft
I have read many posts on the web site from members and on MMAIL who are
thinking about owning their own aircraft and looking for ways to offset the
cost of ownership. I have heard many reasons...

Radio "Squelch-type" Noise by
Kensandyeggo
Have an unusual problem with a new radio, an ICOM panel mount. Nothing
wrong with the radio, but I'm getting a squelch/static noise at certain
times. It is worse when both mags are on and when the engine goes from
about 2200 rpm down to idle. It is less on one mag and practically
non-existent on...

If I need a new Propeller -- Suggestions? (Cherokee 140) by
CDP_bayarea
Its annual time here in rainy California,
IA spotted a few spots (about the size of a dime) of incipient
corrosion on the prop so he pulled it and sent it off to the prop shop
for cleaning and painting (said it probably wouldn't need a full
overhaul). OK by me . . . lets always err on the safe...

Big Name schools and Insurance Rates by
Newbie
Can anyone tell me clearly whether doing my IR rating at a big name
establishment (like Flight Safety, not to name anyone in particular) will
have a positive effect on my insurance rates the day I purchase a plane?
If so, is it a significant effect?

Questions about taking the plunge into a/c ownership by

Well, I'm about to take the plunge into aircraft ownership. I had a
few question about what I am doing that I wanted to throw out there
and see if my thinking is correct or if I am totally in the outfield.
I just started with a flight school as a flight instructor about a
month ago knowing that...

Beech Sundowner/Sierra PIREP wanted by
Don Byrer
Saw an interesting article in Private Pilot mag about the Sierra.
Roomy & stable....sounds like my kind of plane.
Prices look decent; and the FG Sundowner even cheaper (and more
insurable for a 150-hour pilot than the RG Sierra)
Looking for something that can handle two large adults + baggage...

Garmin 430 VOR reception by
Maik
Hi!
I have a SL30 and a GNS 430 in my plane. They use the same antenna via a
splitter.
When I dial in the same VOR in both units the SL30 catches up the
radials always between 20 and 50 nautical miles earlier than the GNS
430! (Altitude about 3000 ft, flat area)
Is this normal?
What is your...

I'm looking at two older Cessna 182's. Both are the same year, both have
roughly the same radios, both are in roughly the same condition, both are
asking about the same price, except for the following:
1) Plane A has a newly overhauled engine, some hail damage, and newer gyros
2) Plane B has...

PA-12 Super Cruiser - Speed on Final by
Thomas Ploch
Hi
I am hoping there are some PA-12 pilots out there. I was wondering what
speed you use on final. I did all of my private in the PA-12 and was
taught to be at 75 mph on final but I can't find any specific reference
to the speed.
Thanks.
