500+ KM OLC flight in Florida today by
Nick Kennedy[_3_]
Dave Springford had what looks to me, as a very nice, for 2-22-19, soaring flight in Florida today. 500 Km OLC
Looks like a lot more fun than snowblowing my driveway which is what I did today.
Congratulations!

Free TE probes by
[email protected]
It looks like I'll finish this batch a bit ahead of schedule. If I can finish making and adding the shank fittings this weekend I will start mailing them out Monday 28 November.
It also looks like I might have one left over--when I make parts like this I always kit out one or two extra assemblies...

Paragliding task score software by
[email protected]
Hi,
I'd like to write a small programm (online) to evaluate our paragliding competitions. We usually set a couple of turnpoints with a radius of 400 meters and the aim is to pass all these one by one and fly to the target cylinder, the finish. Just to get an idea how it looks like, I made a small...

Flying in red and green air by
Limus
I found out today that Popular Science put all of their issues going
many years back into Google Books, available for free. I was just
browsing Jul 1948 issue when I found this article there that talks
about the soaring in 1948 and Robinson "Rate of climb" instrument. Man
we have it easy these...

the greatest gliding pilot in the world ! by
Mal[_4_]
Steve Fossett is being haled by Richard Branson as "the greatest aviator in
the world, he's also the greatest gliding pilot in the world"
I hope via a miracle they find him alive.
Given the technology he was carrying I find the chance of him being alive
remote.
I also noted Steve Irwin passed...

Two very fun students by
Bill Daniels
This week I had the pleasure to fly with a couple of freshly minted 2nd
Lt.'s from the US Air Force Academy class of 2006. They were converting
their glider time from the USAFA soaring program to civilian CFIG's.
To say this young lady and gentleman are "good sticks" would be an
understatement. ...

Discus Battery Straps by
Brian Iten
Our club Discus has a spot for a battery just aft of the rudder pedals
but the straps are MIA. Is it safe to make new straps or use Velcro for
attaching the battery hold down?

Is the tetrahedron at an airport:
1) Supposed to be pinned down to show active runway
2) Allowed to be pinned down to show active runway
3) Supposed to pivot freely with the wind direction

Pegasus becomes Lazarus! (or "I'm not dead yet!") by
Mark628CA
I am holding in my hot little hand a letter from Jacqueline Jambor, a Manager with the FAA's Project Support Branch, ACE-112. It states that the FAA has accepted the request submitted by my friend and hangar partner, airshow pilot Bob Carlton, for a Global Alternate Method Of Compliance (AMOC) that...

Ka-8b by
Ryan Wubben
After a long (12 year) absence, looking to get back into soaring, although
I've
been an active power pilot and have owned a variety of airplanes.
I used to own a Ka-6, but am thinking of a a Ka-8b that is coming up for
sale.
Any thoughts on the Ka-8?
Things to watch out for?
Difficulty rigging?

Ximango - fuel selection problem by
Colin Hamilton
Thanks to all who replied either in ras or by email.
No 'mechanical or electrical' intervention happened
before this problem manifested itself, so I think we're
left with looking at a fuel line blockage somewhere
that results in such a degree of negative pressure
that fuel is still drawn from the...
