why is intercept altitude labeled "LOC only"? by
Gary Drescher
In the NACO plate for ASH ILS 14, the GS intercept altitude (1800') is
labeled "LOC only". How can a GS intercept altitude apply to the LOC
approach and not to the ILS approach? Is this a charting error?

Non-Reciprocal LOC & BC by
Ron Rosenfeld
This was from another group.
At KBOI, until the current release, the approach charts showed, for the
ILS10R and LOC BC 28L approaches magnetic courses of 100° and 278°
respectively.
The JEPP charts were changed with the current release; but the NACO charts
probably still show...

chart heads-up by
Jose
To get back into practice I fired up MSFS 2002 and grabbed a random (out
of date) chart to fly. It was the Bangor BGR ILS 33 approach (amdt 10B
03079, regular NOAA chart). So I gave the chart a quick glance, set up
the nav frequencies as listed in the chart, and went flying. It took a
few...

How to back out FPL changes on GNX-480? by
Roy Smith
It never ceases to amaze me how I keep finding something I don't know how
to do on the GNX-480 after all this time.
Had a flight plan going when I got a pretty significant re-route in flight.
I went into FPL, hit EDIT, and started deleting waypoints with the CLR
button. After a while, I...

Are birds IFR? by
Kevin Clarke
Here's a whacky question.
I just flew my 250NM IFR x-ctry. The last leg was IMC, bouncing along at
5000'. So the question I have is, do birds ever fly in the clouds?
There are many birds at my home airport (KFIT). I got enough stuff to
worry about during an IAP, I'd hate to get a bird strike...

Looking for a Jeppview 3 worldwide coverage key by
[email protected]
Hi All,
I am a European pilot, I have a current European JV 3 subscription but
also have an old JV3 installation which is worldwide.
This installation requires a new coverage key for each month's CD (the
Euro-only version doesn't) and I haven't been able to get my hands on a
key since Jan 2006. I...

Canadian Chart Schedule? by
[email protected]
Does anyone know if the Canadian approach charts (CAP) are on the same
schedule as the US? I am flying to Toronto next month but want to make
sure I don't buy charts from Sportys that will be out of date when I
go.

Legal or not? by

GPS can substitute for the ADF. Radar can substitute also.
So, if the acft has no ADF or the NDB is OTS, so, it could
be.

Good Place To Get Jeppesen Enroute Charts? by
NW_Pilot
Jeppesens web site really is not user friendly when looking for Just 1 Low
Enroute Chart anyone know of a place in the states that has a great
selection "World Wide" and that will sell and ship just 1 or 2 charts at a
time? Thanks!

GNS430 Restore Defaults? by
Stan Prevost
My new airplane has dual GNS430s, and I would like to start out with a clean
slate on them.
Is there a way to reset the entire unit to factory defaults, clearing all
flight plans and user waypoints at the same time?

What to do? by
Everett M. Greene
The ongoing "discussion" of the LEX accident reminds me
of an incident I experienced many years ago of potential
pilot error. I was a passenger on commercial flight on
a smaller airplane (make and model not recalled but it
was twin-engine turboprop). As we were making the
approach to land, I...

How can we "fix" LEX to prevent wrong runway selection everywhere? by
Jim Carter
I've followed the lengthy and somewhat heated discussion speculating
responsibility in the LEX accident, but I've not seen any thread on
improvements other than a few comments about traffic lights on runways,
or more people added to the system to double-check the double-checkers.
I'm interested in...

Interesting "ILS or RNAV" procedure by
JPH
Hadn't seen one of these before, but it's an ILS procedure that requires
GPS for the Initials, Intermediates, non-precision FAF, and missed
approach. Of course if you don't have ILS, no problem, just fly the RNAV
(GPS).

Every time I get in the aircraft and before I start the engine I notice
the attitude indicator is displaying a nose down and a left turn. Why
is that? Is there something wrong with the instrument and is near
failure?

plate question by
Andrey Serbinenko
After looking at the ILS-Z approach in NC that was discussed here some time
ago, I was curious how many similar approaches there are, and if they all
are military. Thanks to the uniform naming NACO uses for its chart files,
it was fairly easy to get a list of all the ILS-Z approaches: there...

Garmin 496 - TAWS any good for Europe by
Thomas Borchert
Peter,
I am wondering whether the European terrain database is any good.
First, the nitpick ;-) It is not TAWS, but a terrain database. TAWS is
something certified.
Second: Both the units from Garmin (296 and up) and those from Lowrance
(Airmap 600c and 2000c) come in a...
