Rotax 912 questions by
RPar
Hi all.
I have recently completed my airplane and have begun taxi testing. For
an engine I chose the Rotax 912. I purchased the engine from a
Trade-A-Plane ad where it was advertised as being "new in the box".
When I inspected the engine prior to buying it did appear to be brand
new and was still...

What size propeller for a 36 V DC motor? by
John Doe[_4_]
I have a Bosch 36 V lithium-ion hammer drill motor with batteries
and charger. What sort of propeller would be appropriate to stick
onto the shaft of that? Would a powered paraglider propeller be
too big? I just want to get a rough idea of how much air that
motor can push. Any...

Metal vs Wood or T2 vs VP (Part II) by
[email protected]
I'm still getting LOTS of messages from guys who just Don't Get It.
So let me try it again.
It is NOT a question of an RV vs a Falco. The most basic factor is
COST which means we can rule out such high-priced examples. Right now
I've been making comparisons between the VP-I as the 'all...

you may not be doing that much longer.

I apologize for the length of this but wanted people to realize what is
going on. This total insanity is being repeated at all 450 commercial

Dismantle-rebuild a certified aircraft by
Fonz
G'Day all.
Just a quick query for all, both in the US and Australia.
If I was to take a proven aircraft, say a C172, totally dismantle it,
including EVERY rivet and bolt, replace anything corroded (ie:sheetmetal
etc) and any hardware/bolts/cables, and rebuildcorrosionproof it, put in a
certified...

electric motor? by

Is there a reason an elecric motor with a backup gas or diesel generator
wouldn't work in aviation? Here's a concept car idea:

Making Placards by
Charlie
Hi, I would like to make professional looking placards for the switches and
circuit breakes in my homebuilt. I have searched the 3M web pages for a
product I heard they have, but have not been able to locate it. Does anyone
have any ideas for making the placards and a source for the...

Preserving Epoxy (Epoxicles ???) by
steveukman
I am seeking advice about mixing and storing epoxy.
I started my first wooden rib last night after weeks of thinking,
planning, building jigs, cutting gussets, testing, rebuilding jigs.....
I decided to use epoxy for a number of reasons. The problem is mixing
small enough quantities reliably. I...

Baby Ace by
W P Dixon
Anyone ever had anything to do with this plane, I really like it. Just
wonder about the gear used on modern versions. Such as what type wheels
/brakes? I actually like the original simple rubber/washer combination in
the landing gear itself. Any experiences?

Noise Nazis at it Again! by
Orval Fairbairn
I just got this one off the EAA Hotline. It seems that some noise Nazis
in MA are trying to do an end run around the Federal preemption of
aviation regulations by suing individual pilots who fly near their
property.

why isn't there composite tube fuselage design? by
Shin Gou
I am just wondering...if composite materials are stronger and lighter
than steel, why composites tubes aren't glued together to form the
fuselage frame just like the traditional 4103 steel tubes being welded
together? Any reasons?

Pinging Ron Wanttaja - "Unporting?" by
Bob Chilcoat
Ron,
I posted this over on RAP but apparently managed to stump everyone. I
thought that perhaps some of your contacts at Boeing might know if this
word, "unporting" was misused by Gann, or is an old term that is no longer
used. It just doesn't sound right to me.

Inexpensive wiring conduit idea by
[email protected]
Howdy,
I've been thinking about how to run wires in an aluminum wing that is already
finished. I can fish something through the holes in the ribs, but I don't
want to just let a wire or cable lay on the raw edges of the rib holes.
I think that the CPVC hot water tubing from Home Depot might make...

Camloc Installation Tools by
jls
Anybody ever made any of these? The pliers would be easy to make. The
drill jig is $475, the dimpling tools about $300 apiece, and the lockwasher
tool $100. Anybody ever make any of these, or are they patented? If they
are patented, maybe that explains the exorbitant prices.
I made and...

Ground tests & pilot logbook. by
Paul Lee
Just a curious question here. Normally when I fly, my pilot logbook
time starts when the hobbs meter starts ticking. That includes probably
10 minutes of taxing, runnup, etc.
What about taxing tests on a experimental? Does that count?
