How would you americans like the canadians calling your sport "grass
football"

"Hockey" is played on grass. With sticks and a ball.

Ice hockey is the sport played on ice.

Paul (captained my school's hockey "B" team once,
believe it or not for those who know me!)

my niece has been offered athletic scholarships to several good schools playing

Amy Johnson, the 26(?) year old lass with ~100 flight hours who flew
her Gypsy Moth solo 11,000 mile from England to Australia in 1930 in
19 days, lost her front teeth to a hockey puck in secondary school,

her parents just finished the last installment to the orthodontist. :-)
