I remember a secretary at a company I used to work for

What's a "secretary"?

I vaguely remember seeing some as a young man, but I thought all of
them had been purged from the workforce? Are there any companies that
still have dedicted clerical staff?

Yes but they don't call them secretaries anymore. Now they are
admistrative assistants.
