First the AI, then the DG, then...? by
Jay Honeck
A couple of months ago our AI, which had been "coming and going", finally
went. We replaced it with a rebuilt unit from "The Gyro House", which had
the dual effect of getting our autopilot working properly again.
Last month, our DG failed completely and suddenly, after a normal landing in
Pella,...

Tanis Pre-heater with Engine Analyzer by
O. Sami Saydjari
Does anyone out there have experience with having installed a tanis
heater when a engine analyzer is already in place. I have a JPI Classic
Scanner (EGT/CHT) that had bayonnet-type probee for CHT. Tanis has a
kit designed for this sitation, but after we installed the kit, none of
the CHT readings...

Taxes and Flying Clubs by
CHRISTOPHER SPIERINGS
I'm hoping folks on this newsgroup can give me some ideas to take back to my
flying club. We currently have 24 members and 3 aircraft. Through years of
less than stellar management the officers the club has found itself in the
position of facing some very expensive upgrades. As a result the...

UPDATE #3 -- Headset Noise by
Jonathan Goodish
I put a voltmeter on the alternator output and measured between 32-35 AC
volts at moderate load and moderate RPM. Looks like some diodes have
decided to give up.
Does anyone have any info on the Plane-Power alternators? There is a
PMA'd replacement for my aircraft, and I will go that direction...

comanche 250 by
Tom Jackson
My dad has a '67 260 - totally awesome aircraft - very fast!
His is worth approx $100,000, but has nice paint and interior.
Off the cuff, I'd say $65,000 sounds good, but you could check the value on
the AOPA website, if you are a member.
Also, the International Comanche Society is a good source...

Aircraft Spruce and Jim Irwin by
Larry Smith
Jim, you and your company were quite courteous on a prop bolt exchange, so I
was gonna order some more mdse. And still hope to, even after this. This
morning I tried to order a Concorde battery for a friend's 172, and the
surly woman in Griffin rejected the card, for curious reasons.
After a...

Any Maverick Leader Jet experience? by
Alex Zeng
They said they are making 5 per month, then there should be 100+ flying out
there now. Anyone has experience building and flying one of them? They
appear to be the only one in the ultra light jet category out there flying.
Does it really take 9 months to assemble them together from the kit?

Another who pays question by
Viperdoc[_4_]
Had a major radio install on my Baron- a Garmin 530W and 430W. As part of
the install the avionics shop moved the radar display.
On the trip home (the same trip where in IMC the alternator quit) I turned
the radar on, since there were some storms over my home airport as indicated
by the...

Nose wheel shimmy by
JFLEISC
I read an interesting thread where someone pointed out that all shimmy
preventitive devices are designed to stop something that has already started,
and that wheel balancing may stop a shimmy from ever starting. Makes sense, but
my question is; What, if any, is the normal method of balancing...

Cessnas 172 variants (K, L, M, N, P...) by
Paul Young
Hello all...
I keep seeing the different letter variants for C-172 airplanes (e.g.,
Cessna 172L, Cessna 172N) but I have no idea how different is which
variant from each other... Is there any website or other resource where
I can find specs for each of the Cessna 172 variants...? Any info
greatly...

Halon Fire Extinguisher? by
O. Sami Saydjari
I just got my first issue of "Light Plane Maintenance" magazine.
I am really enjoying it. In their free book "40 Top Maintenance Tips"
(p27), they say "get the Halon extinguisher while they are still legal."
As I recall, there has been some issue that inhaling Halon can be pretty
bad for people's...

I took the garbage out tonight by
John Clonts
You know that life is good, when your garbage bin contains 12 empty quarts
of aeroshell W100, and 6 empty MGD bottles.
Today I installed the oil "quick change" valve, then went flying for 30
minutes, then changed the oil. Oh that makes it SO much easier! No safety
wire, no "channeling" the oil...

Story from an older pilot 74 by
Hankal
Took off Saturday morning at 6:30 still very dark. Got my IFR clearance in the
air and soon was in solid IMC. Some clouds were nasty black. Got course
deviation don't like to bounce my plane around. 2 hours into the flight the
clouds were not as nasty. 30 minutes later I landed at SGJ for fuel....

Fuel economy help by
G.R. Patterson III
Just saw an article by AP. It seems that Auburn University has made a breakthrough
in fuel cell research. They now have a practical way of catalytically separating
the hydrogen from the carbon and sulphur in conventional fuels such as diesel.
When used in a vehicle equipped with a fuel cell, fuel...

Avionics Help/Recommendations Neede by
three-eight-hotel
You may have seen some of my threads over the past 6-8 months, about an
unpredictable flakey radio problem I was having. It seemed to have
been resolved by replacing a relay in the audio panel.
I have flown the plane for a few months now, with no issues, until
recently. I have encountered the...

Pa-28-151 struts by
Gus Cabre
I have a sticky main strut in my Pa-28-151. My engineer has suggested
changing the o-rings and valves of both struts. I was curious about the
whole structure and have looked everywhere in the internet with no luck Any
suggestions where I could find them?

Turbo question by
soxinbox
I have a piper turbo arrow with a TSIO-360-FB engine. It has the original
waste gate on the turbo, and an after market turbo plus intercooler.
I recently made a long trip, and got the plane up to 14000 for the first
time in a long time. I was having trouble keeping the exhaust temp down. I
had the...
