CNX-80 question by
ROBIN FLY
I have seen some CNX-80 screen pictures with its built-in CDI showing the
course as a triangle, sometimes it points up and other times it points down.
What does it mean when it points up vs. down? Glideslope or VNAV?
Regards,
Robin Hou

Inventing a GPS waypoint for a DP? by
Roy Smith
The ODP out of MMK for runway 36 reads, "climbing left turn to 1800 via
325° bearing from MMK NDB before proceeding on course".
It seems to me that the easiest way to fly that with a GPS would be to
create a user waypoint which is a 325 bearing, 20 (or whatever) mile
offset from MMK NDB and insert...

Enroute charts valid for use in Canada? by
Andrew Sarangan
The enroute chart for the border states include a significant portion of
Canada. Is this sufficient for IFR into Canada? The VFR sectional contains
a warning that the airspace classification may be different in Canada and
that the pilot should consult the Canadian Flight Supplement. But the...

IFR Through Cleveland by
Bartscher
I'll be heading from Toledo to Buffalo late in June and I'm wondering if the
Cleveland class B is accomodating for IFR flights through their area, or if I
should expect to be vectored well around the area. Since I won't have life
rafts or jackets onboard, I want to make sure that I get vectored...

How to get IFR Clearance enroute? by
Stimbo
What are the recommended procedures in obtaining an IFR clearance
enroute?
Flying from NJ to FL, I prefer to fly VFR, but undoubtedly I will
encounter IMC along the way. If I filed IFR in advance, it takes 1/2
hour or more to clear it through ATC. I obviously cannot wait 1/2
hour if I encounter...

Should I file to an intersection? by
Slav Inger
Hi all,
Question: take a look at the VOR Rwy 28 approach at Marshall Brooks
field (RMY). I've filed IFR to airports where the VOR IAF happened to
be the VOR which was no problem, I'd just have that VOR be the last
fix in the route box on flight plan form. In RMY's case, the IAF
appears to be...

Tower Enroute Control? by
Sam Jones
Tower Enroute Control has me confused. What does the Tower have
to do with? It appears to be flight plans that use TRACONS or
RAPCONS for radar services rather than going to the center. So
why is it called Tower Enroute Control? In Boston Approach
isn't even in the same state as the BOS...

returned to flight (a little long) by
Matt Whiting
I posted here a few months ago about returning to flying after a 4 year
layoff. I finally got in the air two days ago. I joined a flying club
that operates an Arrow 180, so I can also get some retract experience as
all of my prior time is in FG airplanes. I flew 2.4 hours for the first
flight...

Can US enroute charts be used in Canada? by
Andrew Sarangan
Are the Canadian areas shown in the US enroute charts valid for IFR
navigation? Unlike the VFR sectional charts, I don't see any warnings
printed on the IFR enroute charts.

Two Q's: Cruise Clearance, Searchable AIM by
Geo. Anderson
Checkride in about three weeks & I am trying to figure out cruise
clearance. Simple enough, cleared between the MEA and the altitude
limit, but I also read somewhere that it is also used to clear you for
descent into a non-ifr airport. Right? How does this work & is it
something you request or...

Vacuum pressure by
Peter MacPherson
At what rpm do people see their vacuum pressure drop below an acceptable
level(3.2?).
I also have a standby vac with a low vac pressure red warning light. When I
reduce power
to 1200-1300 rpm the vac pressure drops off and the red light comes on. I
thought in the
past the pressure would hold until...

Student as PIC in IMC? by
Geo. Anderson
I'll be taking my checkride in a few weeks and one of my goals has been
to have at least 10 hours of actual IMC before I take the ride. It's
going well; I'm at 9.1 and only 2 of those were just boring a hole in
clouds on a cross country.
I have been under the impression that I could log PIC time...

If ADS-B saves lives, deploy it. Or shut the hell up. Just my
