Moriarty Winds by
Dan Marotta
This from a friend at the airport:
Winds at 0E0 right now at 240 degrees, 31 gusting to 37 with flying
tumbleweeds, cats, dogs and coyotes......in haze and blowing dust. Bart is
now being blown eastward back to his home in Kentucky against his will. He,
however, will have to get past the...

Tost release and chain links by
Ramy[_2_]
Chain links are often used instead of TOST rings for ground tows behind golf carts, as they are much cheaper. I noticed today that I can easily slide the chain link out of the nose hook of my glider without pulling the release, while in other gliders I can’t. Looks like my release has slightly...

SkySight forecast available for SW USA by
JS
As used at the recent WGC in Benalla... An excellent forecasting tool has been released in the USA, first available for the SW. More to come?

I have flown using Matthew Scutter's SkySight website when in Australia and found it extremely useful.

Happy March from Tony Condon by
MNLou
Did everyone see that Tony celebrated March 1 by heading downwind for over 500 km?
I think his latest RAS post was probably from on the ground NE of Dallas.

EASA licence and insurance by
Andrew Ainslie
Hi all,
I'm lending my glider to a British pilot who has an EASA licence. I just called Costello up and asked what I needed to add him to my insurance, and they said that he needed a "USA add-on". Anyone know what they're talking about? I thought an EASA licence was internationally accepted....

Glider knowledge test questions in searchable form by
Thin Air
Looking for the entire catalog of knowledge test questions (650+) in a format that can be keyword searched (.pdf, .txt, etc.).
I've found several links (even on FAA website) but all end up broken.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Cross Country Definition by
f.blair
I saw a posting on a web site about Steve Fossett's around the world flight.
Just think, since he landed at the same airport that he took off from, he
can't log that flight as 'cross country flight'.

SSA Badge Approval by
lanebush
I realize that a new badge person is either in training or just been
trained. Has anyone received an approval lately? I have had a badge
submission in for over two months and heard nothing. The SSA staff
assures me that he should be getting to in any time now. I am
wondering if anyone else has...

Zaon MRX causing radio interference by
[email protected]
With my new Zaon MRX PCAS mounted on top of my glare shield, I've been
experiencing some radio interference and linked this to the MRX: the
radio gives white-noise static -- like the squelch is not properly
adusted. When I turn the MRX off it goes away.
I've heard putting a "ferrite core" around...

Thin Airfoil and Climb Performance by
Brad[_2_]
As a guy who has flown thick airfoil ships and currrently owns a ship
with a 17% airfoil, I am curious what kind of performance in climb I
might see with a 14% airfoil section.
Thanks,
Brad

Warning:Off-topic, iPhone opinions solicited by
Stewart Kissel
Sailplane pilots seem to have high techno-geek standings.
I have been watching with curiosity/amusement the
media frenzy over this device. Cell phones are quite
useful for many of us, and particularly for retrieves(when
we have coverage!).
So is this device clever marketing by Steve Jobs, or
is...

PZL compass repair by

I have a PZL K-13 compass that's leaking. Here's a photo of the
compass:
http://www.soarbfss.org/scgi-bin/gallery2/v/Flying_0/acc.jpg.html
This summer, I had the canopy of my ASH-26E open and it focused the sun
onto the compass and melted a hole in the front. Luckily it was in the
black painted...
